Maybe I need to clarify.

I go to https://uncommonforumarchive.com/member ... le&u=56085, my profile.

I search user's posts, https://uncommonforumarchive.com/search ... 5&sr=posts. So far so good.

I select a random page, in this case p4, and I get https://www.uncommonforum.com/search.ph ... 5&start=45, which is back on UF.

And if I use SEARCH for anything on the archive... yep, I'm back on UF. So I'll still have lost dozens of threads I enjoyed and can still (at this stage) access, but on UF only.

I looked at https://forum.weedpaws.org/ and saw Leo Volont was the only member other than john5:6, so I definitely made the right choice. This forum has the potential to be as good as UF, and I see no reason why it shouldn't be, although I do think the name is unfortunate. Psychology & Self-Help Forum - Uncommon Knowledge was irresistible to me when I was in trouble, whereas I'd never have looked at a forum called weedpaws.

So, I see. In the searches where it has "jump to post"—all links go to the original site.

9monthquit ... a bug is found!!

Edit to add:
-1- How long can one edit one's posts, as I'm doing this one now 13 hours later.
-2- The search function goes straight to original site, and that's why the search results are of the original site.

Wow, 13 hours! I edited one on p2 of The Black Pill 35 minutes later because it'd taken so long to load that I'd double-posted.

Looks like the answer to your question is "indefinitely". Don't tell tokeless!!

I think 10 minutes as on UF was fair.

That behavior is expected. Searching of any kind on the mirror site does not work. When you click "Search user's posts", it will show you that user's posts. But any links on them will not work. I know this is a big problem, because what's the point of a mirror site if you have to comb through years worth of content to find something? I am considering programming an alternative search engine for the archive forum. Let me know your thoughts on this, and thanks for pointing this out.

Thank you for pointing this out. Looking into the forum settings, there was no limit on when a user can edit or delete posts. I have set the following constraints, please let me know if you believe these are over (or under) tuned:

User cannot edit post after: 10mins
User cannot delete post after: 1 day

I think it'd be great, but not if it's going to mean a big outlay for you. I'm grateful for this site just as it is.

As you say, there's not much point to a mirror site that can't be searched. I suspect even "combing through" would be an exercise in frustration, and keep defaulting to UF for as long as it's there.** I hoped it might work differently when UF disappeared, although I started copying across some old threads until I realised I couldn't possibly get to them all.

UF's search facility was none too helpful anyway, definitely needed an overhaul, so here's your chance to Build Back Better in a GOOD way.
User cannot edit post after: 10mins
User cannot delete post after: 1 day
sound okay to me, although I personally am not a fan of deleting. In UF's heydey certain threads ran hot, VERY hot, purely because people couldn't delete once there'd been a reply. We couldn’t delete OR edit after 10 minutes without everyone else seeing we'd done so. Roger Elliott (one of the two founders) locked
https://www.uncommonforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=91899 on page eight; there was a much longer one that got removed altogether, from memory 40+ pages involving most of the same players. It depends what your aim is, lots of hits (in which case you could accept some advertising), or just a place to continue the addicts’ conversation.

On that note, I appreciate that you've changed the header to Psychology & Self-Help. There's no reason whatsoever why this shouldn't be every bit as good as UF was just five years ago. Having started in 2003 it was already clunky when I signed up, but one or two C-PTSD forums I enjoyed disappeared overnight without warning, while UF supported me, as it supported you, through some tough times.

What you DON'T want is to start getting illegal or otherwise undesirable posts here (avoiding the p word in case it attracts flies). Again, I'm sorry I can't commit to being a moderator, although at this stage it couldn't be too onerous. The "report this post" thingie will work as long as SOMEONE is keeping an eye on it, and when traffic picks up there'll be more eyes as well as potentially more... unpleasantness. I'm more concerned about traffic NOT picking up, but apart from my last UF avatar I've stopped trying to get people over here.

** I've sent a query to Mark Tyrell (the other founding member) as to when UF will actually disappear, since their statement that it wouldn't go down before March 31 led a lot of us to believe that was the cut-off date. Perhaps we've been April Fooled and it isn't going down at all!

One day to delete is (way) too long. There's no point to ten minute edit time if one can delete a post after 23:59 hours. Delete and rewrite!!
