You and me both! For some reason I had no problem with the constant "humans are frugivores", which is patent nonsense; but this even more patently nonsense stuff is a just plain nasty.

Pity about Iran. It has a fascinating history and a little known religion called zoroastrianism. A lot of Iranians would be glad to see the back of the clerical mullahs.

Seems to me ALL religions cause more (and more dangerous) problems than they alleviate. I'll listen to anyone with a sincere faith, but if they start proselytising or are in any way fanatical I walk away.

In Roman times, part of Iran was Parthia. Parthia was known for its oracles and prophets. From here came the Zoroastrian mystic cult which teaches a kind of yin and yang, I think. Then you have Carthage where Tanit (goddess) was revered. That language of Phoenician is quite close to modern Hebrew.

You might as well copy and paste text that some tribal group, or other, pierce their gums, then offer it as "proof" of a diabolical nature. Even the absurd rantings on circumcision. I mean, Q.V. is totally unaware that custom was typical in various ancient societies, including ancient Egypt. As well as pierced ears in Mauretania. She simply cannot fathom for her life why simply pasting selected snippets from random sites has nothing to do with research, or understanding history or anthropology.
Platonism states lack of understanding has a direct relationship to the ethical balance of the mind. That's why most great scientists were very morally orientated, tolerant individuals. Quiet Voice is full of toxic anger and resentment, so her judgement and ability to reason is impaired.

Oh crikey, I've just reread Not Without My Daughter by Betty Mahmoody, who was trapped in Iran for 18 horrific months. That's a place to be stayed away from, despite Zoroastrianism which I believe has some similarities to Hinduism. In a sense I've created my own religion, without church, incense or creed. I believe in humanity, live and let live, do unto others etc. I can tell you're a peaceable sort of cove too.

Sadly I agree with that too. She certainly does have one or two bees in her bonnet, and the repeated insults are just plain stupid. I'm sorry to see it, because I thought of her as one of my online friends and now I just think she's out on her own somewhere and has lost the plot in a big way.

As far as I know it's the done thing in White Australia, too. It could have something to do with climate, methinks.

I've worked with a few scientists and yes, they are. They're also the happiest people I know, enjoying 'in' jokes about their field of interest and welcoming volunteers such as I was. Most of them don't make a lot of money, but who cares about that when you're doing what you love!
