Re: Covid Recovery Without The Vax
My immune system has now caught up. In biology they call it the "cavalry". Have you ever seen Fantastic Voyage, which they shot in 3 D? The Proteus only has an hour till antibodies start to attack the vessel. Hopefully my lungs will clear up if it's only viral bronchitis. If there was pneumonia I would need a chest x-ray. I feel better today, however, so maybe it will be OK. Imagine what Nando Parrado went through in the Andes. No medicine, heating, civilisation.

I don't think so. The name's familiar but it doesn't sound like my cup of tea.Fulgurator wrote: ↑Sat Feb 08, 2025 8:23 pm Have you ever seen Fantastic Voyage, which they shot in 3 D? The Proteus only has an hour till antibodies start to attack the vessel.
... plus lots if injuries and, worst of all, nothing to eat in sub-zero temperatures. Then there was a late-stage avalanche that buried everyone in the fuselage so several more died before they could be dug out. It's probably unimaginable. All of that followed, when Nando and Canessa walked out, by accusations of cannibalism!Imagine what Nando Parrado went through in the Andes. No medicine, heating, civilisation.
Very glad to hear you're on the mend.

Those survivors live in a very prosperous part of Uruguay. I'm hearing this present flu has been putting people in bed for 3 or 4 weeks. I'm now on the ninth day and the stage of regaining some weight and energy. Cough is bad but the fever and tiredness has retreated. Through it all, I've managed to keep the fire on at night for the cat while feeding us both. I had no option but to stay partly mobile.

Your cat's keeping you going! I would be the same with the beloved dog that I still miss every day. Like you I suspect, I had no need of human company while he was alive.

"Secretary of State for Health, Wes Streeting said: 'The tidal wave of flu this winter has seen more than three times as many patients in hospital compared with last year, putting huge pressures on the NHS.
'This government has ended the strikes so staff are on the frontline this winter rather than the picket line, introduced the new RSV vaccine, and put immediate extra investment into the NHS."
So, more people in hospital with flu. I just about escaped that situation out of determination to stay with my cat and not let him down. He relies on me these days and I felt better knowing I was still in control.

We're now at the 10th day. Immune system has kicked in but mostly what remains is a very bad cough, and a reduced state of fitness. Haven't had flu this bad for 20 years but, as stated, lots of people have been hit. I probably need 2 weeks to be as I was prior to the virus.
This Winter has been really nasty for sure. Maybe the cold and damp just crept into effect. I'll be watching Columbo tonight with the Puss.

Indeed it has. And the so-called summer wasn't much better. H and I got to the beach just once; usually we get three trips in.
Funny you're a Columbo fan. We revisit it fairly often, too. It's basically the same plot every episode, but the little one-eyed man in the mac is irresistible.
I wonder what you think of Agatha Christie. She had basically the same plot every time as well, whereby all the suspects are somehow isolated and it's clear one of them must be the killer.
Don't mind me, I'm just jealous. That bang on the head almost 10 years ago robbed me of my ability to write fiction. It was my passion, and I'm lost without it.
I go to Headway meetings. It doesn't alter my facts, but it's a relief to meet people who 'get' it. https://www.headway.org.uk/

At the moment, I'm depressed about age. It's amazing how quickly we get old. My uncle has little time left, my aunt will soon need care and my mother apparently fell at the care home the other day. Once they were fit and active with jobs and a social life.
I have a very strange memory that seems unaffected by time. I remember things from 30 years ago. I even recall the Beatles splitting up and the Charlie Manson trial. First time seeing TV in colour. The only thing that changes is the body. Our bodies gradually degrade and get weaker. I have a dread of getting to a stage where my body is something cobbled together to squeeze out a few more years.

Entirely, or almost entirely, due to lifestyle factors. The main lifestyle factor that makes people "old" is diet. The people living in this world have been conditioned from birth to eat against their own nature.

Don't get me started on fruit diets. I recently discovered what happened to Heraclitus:
…he became a hater of his kind and wandered on the mountains, and there he continued to live, making his diet of grass and herbs. However, when this gave him dropsy, he made his way back to the city and put this riddle to the physicians, whether they were competent to create a drought after heavy rain. They could make nothing of this, whereupon he buried himself in a cowshed, expecting that the noxious damp humour would be drawn out of him by the warmth of the manure. But, as even this was of no avail, he died at the age of sixty."
