I feel your pain. Also, I never know how to respond when street people approach me for money.
I'm tempted to ask "how much do you need?", knowing every one of them is a bottomless pit.

I just noticed on the ancient language forums how many "grammar slaves" abound. I think that's a hard way to learn. We didn't learn English by recognising perfective futures or participles. Myself I tend to go by "feel".
There was a guy called Luke Ranieri who.got quite big in this area - a pilot in the Marines who put stress on speaking in Latin. He's quite good but I think few people - if any - could use the language as, say, someone from ancient Pompei. Anyway, Luke Ranieri has been quiet since 2022 so maybe he's taking a break.
The Hebrew language by the way was rebooted as an experiment. It's as if we got the Italians to once again speak Latin. I have no idea how close modern Hebrew would be to the Hebrew spoken in Biblical times. You had Akkadian language, Aramaic (spoken by Jesus), Greek, which can be very hard, or Coptic (which is ancient Egyptian adapted to Greek alphabet). Sumerian is the oldest known language but only partly deciphered. Legend states Abraham came from Ur so was presumably Sumerian. Sumeria has a lot of ancient astronaut theorists interested because a Sumerian exhibit shows a helocentric solar system chart so the sun is in the centre and earth orbits it. The Greeks thought the earth was the center of the solar system. So, Sumerians knew what it took millenia for Copernicus to rediscover.

That even surprised me. The Israelis figured out how to cause software devices to explode - this time throughout Lebanon. Thousands of activists injured. People are saying this is a whole new angle in warfare - something totally new. You'd never imagine software could be used as a weapon.
They still don't know how it was done and theories abound.
With any luck our own resident forum banshee will be somewhat quietened if her software goes up with a bang. Now that would be fun.

This opens the door to a new era of warfare. I did hear of exploding Chinese appliances that were marketed but that was unintended and unforseen. In fact it's like something out of James Bond.

I knew all along the internet essentially works potentially like a homing pigeon. People who use the net assume they are anonymous but internet actually assists governments or various agencies. It's like the old TV licence detector - a simple oscillator tuned to your aerial reception.


"I haven't seen a detailed analysis of how these pager bombs were constructed but the assumptions I've seen here and elsewhere are that it was a few grams of material in an electronic component that was set off when the firmware detected a specific incoming signal. Depending on the explosive and how it was constructed this could have been virtually undetectable even if someone had disassembled the pager to check for a bomb or bugs.

On one hand, actually bugging the pagers might have been harder to pull off because while bugs can be made pretty small, they are still electronic devices that need to transmit (which can be detected) and need power (which also can be detected). Depending on the specific pager, you can't just hijack existing functionality like you could with a phone or something similar.

That said though, there is a fairly decent chance that this isn't the first time Israel used whatever method they used to inject these rigged pagers into the Hezbollah supply chain but this is just the first (as far as we know yet) time they used bombs. Because of this attack, basically every single device or piece of equipment Hezbollah has obtained in the past and certainly from whoever supplied these is now suspect."
